Wet Atlanta and I need some painting help
Jul. 31st, 2009 | 11:28 am
Reading everyone's comments on the weather this summer has been interesting. Before I got married, I was looking at land around Port Ludlow,Wa for retirement. I liked the area because it stayed cooler than Atlanta. Guess it is just as well that I didn't buy some. It sounds like it is awful in Wa. right now weather wise. Atlanta this summer has been cooler than usual with some dry spells and now gloomy, rainy weather for over a week (at least it feels that long).
OK, now to the painting problem. I bought a large skull and crossbones bank at Michael's when they went on sale. It is porcelin-like with a very polished finish like a glaze. I want to paint it like a sugar skull but what should I do to cover the glaze so the paint will stick?
TIA

hello all

I certainly have not been posting much these days. I don't know where my day goes but I never get 1/2 of what I wanted to do done in it. I do manage to almost keep up with everyone's post except I don't know what Paula's new project is about.
I have been in 2 shows this summer, excellant exposure, no sales. Can't say it is the economy for sure but no one else had any sales either so it did make me feel a bit better. Have tried a new way of advertizing, not sure if it will help but it was so much fun to work with the graphics person, now I need to learn how to do these.

Felting afternoon
Apr. 25th, 2009 | 04:52 pm
Well, my first attempt at dying cotton didn't quite turn out. I soaked in soda ash instead of urea and then a soda ash wash so will try again tomorrow. The cotton did accept some of the dye but I am afraid it will wash out if it gets wet. Learn something everyday.
I am going to have to hire an electricion soon. The mice and squirrels that I share the studio with seem to be chewing all the wires and each time I go up there, another socket doesn't work. Wonder if I can find someone who will wire on the outside of the walls and put a cover over the wirings instead of wiring inside the walls where hungry critters will continue to eat? Probably very out of code but with so many people out of work, I am bound to find someone who will do it, maybe.

What a difference a day can make
Apr. 15th, 2009 | 05:20 pm
Phil just came home from his contract job and is terminated this coming Friday. They terminated the guy hired with him too. The company is going in a different direction. This is the 3rd job Phil has been terminated or let go for various company reasons in the last 2 years. Needless to say he isn't talking to me and is in a BAD mood. Sigh here we go again...

Carder
Apr. 14th, 2009 | 06:32 pm
Well, I am the proud owner of the old carder. They didn't accept my lower bid but I got it at that price anyway. Let's hope it does work well, I definitely have visions of making really pretty blended batts. This will be something I can do without really thinking while I sit with Phil at night so he will be happy. Anyway, if it does work, I will be showing some pics of my new batts. Below is a picture of some of my dyed roving.

A little bragging, sorry about this but the dogs don't seem excited
Apr. 14th, 2009 | 12:35 pm
What a wonderful day I am having! First I sold 2 of my most beautiful felted pieces. So far everything I have sold on my Etsy shop has been felted, hmmm, that tells me something. Second GladRaggz has written a beautiful description of my website http://raven333.etsy.com/ on her blog http://tinyurl.com/daa3hw Thank you so much GladRaggz.
My ad on Craft Cult showed a dramatic rise in views yesterday, all good stuff! I needed a little kick in the pants to get my muse going and all of this should do it. Don't you just love it when things come together at the same time?

Harley
Apr. 7th, 2009 | 10:28 am
Came home late Friday to find that Harley had a big lump on her muzzle that moved. Managed to get her mouth open and say it was a tooth coming out. Vet was closed of course and Harley didn't seem to be in any pain so took her in first thing Sat. morning. Vet said it was a broken too, duh and gave me painkiller and antibiotics, then scheduled her for surgery first thing Monday morning. I took Monday off just in case there were complications. It took about 5 hours for the surgery. The tooth I had found was split in half and came out easily but the tooth above it was also broken and it came out in 20 pieces. Abcesses under each tooth. I brought here home around 2pm and had a very drunk little doggie but when it came time to eat, she managed to drag herself to the bowl. Today she is better, still groggy and her mouth is still draining bright red blood. I just wonder how long she was in extreme pain befor the tooth moved and I noticed. The vet said this was not a recent break. I feel like such a bad dog mom...

Storm Sirens
Feb. 18th, 2009 | 05:09 pm
I have lived here for 5 years and survived many a bad storm but today is the first time I have ever heard the sirens. I turned on tv and all the weathermen are having orgasims about this storm and we are all going to die. It is coming right towards me, guess the dogs and I should be sitting in the bathtub but that sure seems silly.

Anyone know of any tutorials about Twitter? I have tried following what Mr. Twitter has to say and I just don't get it. I joined and added a few artists as friends and now I am getting lots of people wanting to be my friend which is fine but I really don't see the point of Twitter. Any ideas?

I am in trouble again
Feb. 9th, 2009 | 05:50 pm
My a**hole boss was out of town all last week and it was so nice. He came back today an immediately starting pushing me. He changed my evaluation so that I have to be an expert of a piece of equipment that they don't plan to fix. So that puts me in the spot that I can never get a decent evaluation. I am tired of being pushed around so I went over his head and that person is pulling in another top person and if it works out the equipment will be fixed, moved to a different area, I will go with it and no more a**hole. Doesn't that sound good? Here was my horoscope for the day, it made me laugh.
"In your working life, Justice demands that you follow a path of discipline and precision. However, your mood is dictated by the Hanged Man and that's not really what you feel like doing. Feeling trapped by the demands of those you work with, you find their overbearing attitude intolerable. In this situation, it's best to keep your cool and take time out by yourself so as to preserve your integrity and keep your bearings."

What Office Supply Are You?
You Are a Whiteboard
You are a dreamer, a visionary, and a straight up idea person. You are very creative.
Even if the things you think up are a bit wacky, they often are brilliant.
You are an adept problem solver. You are always tossing around dozens of ideas.
You would make a good artist, designer, or architect. You do best when work feels like play.
